How To Become a Volunteer at HLCC!
Fill out the application HERE
After turning in your completed application, you will be called to schedule a volunteer interview. During this interview, you will learn about our programs, services, policies, and procedures. It is our desire to find areas that fit your interests.
Clear a background check. All ongoing volunteers who will be working with youth on a regular basis are carefully screened to ensure the safety of our members. If you, or your group, are only volunteering for a one-time event or special fundraising event, a background check is not necessary.
Volunteers are a very important part of helping us to reach our mission:
The Houston Levee Community Center exists to provide a hub of community building programs that develop young leaders, strengthen families and transform neighborhoods.
General Afterschool Volunteer - The Houston Levee Community Center needs dedicated volunteers on weekdays between the hours of 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to help assist the Afterschool Program staff with implementing programs such as Homework Assistance, Arts & Craft, Computer Science, Cooking, Sports & Recreation, and Game Room Activities.
Supply Drive/Wish List - For individuals and organizations who lack time but are still looking for ways to support the community center, we are always in need of new school supplies, holiday toys, sporting equipment, games, crafts, and other supplies that make the community center a vibrant and special place for members of all ages.
Fundraising Special events - Volunteers in this arena work on special events and fundraising for the Community Center. Such events may include: Golf Tournament (September), Friday Night Live on the Levee, Mother-Son and Father-Daughter events.
Board Members - Our board members represent a wide spectrum of industries and local interests. These volunteers are charged with the responsibility of ensuring the integrity of our organization by overseeing financial, structural, and policy decisions that guide the Houston Levee Community Center, its staff and volunteers. Board members are also responsible for aiding in fundraising efforts.
Special Skills - Dance, magic, cooking, outdoors, environmental education, forensic science-
each of us has a special passion. You choose the topic and the format: one-time demonstrations or weekly classes. We would love to enrich the community with your talents!
Maintenance - Our equipment and facilities receive extreme use as the center is used daily by families. We regularly need cleaning, painting and even construction services. If you have a skill or an interest in this area, and you can help create an environment where members feel comfortable and at home, we welcome your talent.
